The Super Football League (SFL) is a full ACTION! PC Football Game, always using the latest Windows Version, continuous ownership draft league. The SFL just completed it's 34th(!) season and is comprised of 16 teams that are run by the best group of members a Commish could ever ask for (I know, "Golly gee ah shucks", but I do mean that :-)!
Our approach to league play.
We play using the latest NFL Players, but we also believe that the greatest era of pro football was played BEFORE the advent of Free Agency and Salary Caps, or better stated the 80's and earlier! This is a hobby we believe, not a job, so while we applaud those league and members who relish and love the challenge of Salary Caps, we just choose to go the route of feeling someone should be rewarded for a job well done by letting them keep their players (like in the 60's, 70's and/or 80's), not have them taken away and given to those that did not do their homework, as their teams usually reflect. Being that this is a hobby, and thus supposed to give you a bit of relief from reality, we don't want to agonize over a rosters worth of numbers and how they affect your team this year and in years to follow. Leave that to real life GM's who are making well into six figures, with a staff of number crunchers to do their work, we just want to have fun! We don't have a staff to do the math, and we finished our homework assignments long ago, we just want to have fun.
So while we applaud those who love to do all that extra work, we choose not to, and if you must have that type of effort as a challenge, then the SFL is not for you. But if you want to get into a league that allows you to build your team (either over time via the Draft and key trades, or via the George Allen approach of "The future is now") and be rewarded, or punished, for your efforts, then the SFL is the league for you! While salary cap leagues opinion that they create parity (by literally taking from the rich and giving to the poor), in reality, if you look at those leagues over a period of time you'll see that as with every league, playing any sport, playing any game, good coaches always rise to the top, no matter what the set up, be it our way, or the salary cap way. So the question is, what style is for you?
So in sum, while we have plenty of systems in place designed to allow a lesser team to build itself up, and plenty of challenges making it difficult to create a dynasty, just know that if you know NFL Players, and can tell the ones what are going to "be someone", and just as important, those who are not, then you WILL BE REWARDED in the SFL!
Our season.
Our season begins pretty much as soon as the previous one ends, what with all the trading that goes on (anywhere form 50 to 100 deals annually). After Rule Proposal Discussions are held we move on later in the off season to our annual "Christmas in August!"...The Rookie Draft! All participate either in person at my house or via the Chat Room and it is FUN! That baby highlights the off season!!!
From there we go on our 16 week trip using the most balanced, fair, and logical "Strength of Record" schedule around to see who the ten playoff participants will be (with almost all games being played head-to-head, either in person or via the Internet!!!). During that time all members get their email newsletter EVERY Sunday evening (a sample copy can be viewed via the NewsLetter link above) COMPLETE with up to date standings, COMPLETE stats for ALL teams AND players, game reports, the week's statistical highlights for both individual and team categories, next week's marquee match ups, and much, much more.
At the conclusion of the playoffs a champion is crowned, a BEAUTIFUL trophy (or plaque if they prefer) is awarded, and then THE CYCLE STARTS AGAIN!!!
More than anything this league stands for easy going fun and good times. We don't allow "clubhouse lawyers", snipping of fellow members, or inconsideration of others of any kind in the league, and that's what gives us such a strong foundation membership, we get along with each other and just have FUN as a hobby is supposed to be!
What does it take to be a member in The Super Football League?
The SFL is built for fun first and foremost.
More than anything this league stands for easy going fun and good times. We don't allow "clubhouse lawyers", snipping of fellow members, or inconsideration of other's of any kind in the league, and that's what gives us such a strong foundation membership, we get along with each other! The SFL is a huge success in that regard! But it does require a commitment from all members to keep it that way. I believe we have the greatest group of members going, bar none. We get along very well, we treat each other like adults, and don't allow the type of "childish bickering" that brings league fun down elsewhere.
We do have a serious side when it comes to being an "on time" league. It is my firm belief that a well run league is a league that runs "on time" and is always current. Probably the only thing I absolutely "demand" of my membership is that they turn things in "when they are due" and that they turn them in in the "requested format". Trust me, this sounds harsher then it actually is, but it is a requirement to being in the SFL. It is also the #1 reason we always start and finish our season's on time and the league always moves along at a steady clip. The guys are forever saying that that is the part they love most about this league, it's timeliness.
If and when you become an SFL member, those things will be required of your tenure.
TIME COMMITMENT :
Well, we are not for the faint of heart, but it's not that
difficult either. Basically, I ask just a few basic things of my members. Be on
time with league functions, turn things in the way they are requested (leads to
things looking sharp and easy to decipher, as opposed to disjointed and
confusing), and do things according to league rules. Other than that, it's gravy
baby. :-)
You will receive A LOT of email traffic from me pertaining to current events going on within the league, but I'd rather have a fully informed league than one that is in the dark. Haven't had a member yet that didn't appreciate that approach! :)
As to playing your games, probably the most time consuming aspect is that it is requested that when the visiting team coach/member wants to play the game at your house via the Internet or in person (and this is happening about 98% of the time these days, so expect this to be the case for every game, and I'll want you to do so for your Road games as well!!!) you are required to make every attempt to accommodate him (AND vice versa). My basic feeling on this is that you are going to have to play the game anyway, why not have some good fun F2F action while your doing so. To me, NOTHING beats a good one on one FB game!
So the bottom line on a members time commitment is this. If your are a punctual person who follows league rules, likes to make new friends and treat them with respect, and don't mind getting a lot of emails and files from the league office, then you'll enjoy the heck out of being a member in our league!
SFL Minimum Member & Computer Requirements :
6) Be willing to have a lot of fun! ;-)
So, with all that rambled off, if your interested in joining our fun league, and we'd love to
have you, please send me an email
(BroncoCrazy@ca.rr.com) expressing your interest, and please be sure
to tell me a bit about yourself such as your Action and/or internet league
experience, or anything else you can think of to help me know a bit about you so
we can get you into the SFL quickly, thanks!
