Hope all is well with everyone! Feel free to drop me a note any time, please know though that I can at times be slow in replying, I am very sorry about that. Just too many things always going on sometime. Please be patient, I'll get back to you as soon as I can I promise!

How It All Started : I admit it, I am a HUGE nostalgia freak. I just LOVE to "go back in time" and watch a game from the recent or distant past to enjoy it again and again.

More importantly, I remember when I was a kid first falling in love with football (late 60's) how I used to think how great it would be if I could actually "see" the great Packer teams & stars or some other team's and/or games from the past that had been played before I was old enough to care.

With those two things in mind I began collecting my library of game tapes in the mid 80's, and I will enjoy watching them as I get older (and older, and older, and...  :) as well as be able to share with my son, daughters (they love football), son-in-laws, grandkids, friends, etc... I can hardly wait for the day I am asked "Grandpa, what was it like watching John Elway/Joe Montana/Joe Namath/etc... play???". My reply of course will be "See for yourself!" as I pop in a game of theirs!

So with all that in mind I have built what you see below, my current collection of Games & Films. They are all either my own self recorded copy (aka : Master), copies off the Network Masters (I have friends who work at them, and other friends who know people who work for the Networks), copies off my friends Masters, high quality copies, highlight films off various network shows, or finally just copies I found here and there from dealings with other collectors like your self that was something I just had an interest in getting, even if the quality was a bit below my normally high standard (these are few and far between, but some HL's from the 60's or earlier are only able to be found in that condition).

I guess in summation, to me, and hopefully for you too, these things become like time machines. When you watch one of these games, you suddenly remember what was going on with the teams at that time, and what the game meant to their season as a whole. You remember where you were when you were watching it, who you watched it with, what was going on there at the time, and in a broader sense, what was going on in your life at that time. It's funny, but it's true, one simple game can spark all those kinds of memories beyond just the enjoyment of seeing the action on the field happen again. And even if you didn't see it live, you remember what was going on in your life at the time the game was played, and if you weren't even alive at that time, you wonder what was going on! With each game, beyond just viewing the sports action again as it happened they are mini time machines, that's what they are, I kid you not.

My Collection Direction : At this point, unless it is something RARE, I am only looking for certain games to EITHER add OR upgrade, and for the most part I only want them off a Master (a tape/DVD you made yourself of the game right off the original broadcast), or NFL Team Season Highlights (also referred to as "Team Yearbooks" sometimes), Game Of The Week, and This Week In Pro Football shows bought directly from NFL Films, and other Highlight Films that are along the same lines as those I have listed below, such as World Series films, that are the original tapes. I have built my collections "across the board quality" way up there where I like it to be, and being this picky will keep it that way, I hope you can understand.

So in sum, "what I collect" is pretty much limited to only games & highlight films I am personally interested in watching. I really have no desire to collect every game that exists, and even if a game was "awesome", if it doesn't spark my trade interest, I wont want to trade for it. The Denver Broncos are my favorite team, while the Colorado Buffaloes are who I follow most closely in college football. In the NBA the Lakers are it for me, while in baseball I really don't have a favorite team, though I lean towards the Dodgers & Angels. NFL Team  Season Highlights (also referred to as "Yearbooks" sometimes), especially from the mid 70's and earlier, are a passion of mine, especially if they are high quality films. Also along those same lines are the "NFL Game of the Week" and "This Week in Pro Football" from NFL Films, and also "World Series Highlights" films too . Really though, I just like to collect games & highlight films of any team that are of historic reference, and if it involves one of those teams, great, all the better!

My Basic Deal : These days what I do is set up a deal where I borrow your Master (and again, it's has to be a "master", which means you recorded the actual event yourself off the original TV Broadcast... sorry to be so redundant on that point, but I have had more then a few tapes come in over the years that were not Masters, only to hear a reply when I pointed that out to the person of "Well, it's "my" master...) from you to make a DVD Copy of it for my collection, which insures I get the best quality I can. In return, I of course will either do the same for you, or, if you would prefer, I'll make you a Copy of one of my games that you have an interest in. Either way is fine by me, so it's your option.

All of my stuff (except for the re-broadcasted edited games) has been converted over to DVD now (it was expensive, and very time consuming, but very much worth it!), so I only make DVD to DVD duplicate copies. Please know that I use nothing but HIGH END equipment and connection's in my set up to ensure that I can give you the best copy I possibly can!

I do know that many of my games & highlights you could probably get on sites such as eBay, iOffer, iSell, and similar sites, and probably for a relatively small cost. BUT, I gotta tell you, IMHO because of what I have seen come from those dealers (and yes, that is what they are as opposed to "collectors") over the years, "most" of the copies from those type sites  are crap, sometimes as bad as 5th Generation or worse copies. And once you get it, your stuck. It seems like this new breed of collector is in this hobby just to make a buck, as opposed to creating a nice collection built on BOTH quality AND content, so they don't care what it "looks like", only that they have it and can list and sell a copy of it. When you receive their crap, your only recourse is to give them a negative feedback, which doesn't really matter as 99% of those guys simply change to a new name & info every so often, which is why most have very limited feedback. Trust me, or not, that none of the real long time collectors such as myself use eBay, that's a swap meet of junk for the most part, so please do not offer me anything you got from there, thanks. If you want to take a high risk at getting junk, go the eBay route, if high quality is of importance to you, great, you & I have something important in common, lets try and work out a trade!

So if you are interested in any of the following games and/or highlights, GREAT! Drop me a note at   BroncoCrazy@ca.rr.com

My "Wish List" :
Any game listed below I would like to upgrade if you have a MASTER COPY (in other words, you taped it yourself off the original broadcast), or you believe your copy would upgrade mine. Specifically speaking, do you, your Dad, your Brother, Uncle, friend, etc... have VHS "OR" Beta Master tapes of games from way back when? If so, please do let me know about which ones you have! Though I might not state here specifically that I am looking for a game, you might have one from the past that I would be interested in. You'd be surprised how many games on my list are from deals just like that! You know, where I could get a game in really great condition that I found was appealing to me after looking it up in The Sporting News Guide (I have every one from 1969 on). So please do let me know, I'll certainly give it the time needed to at least check into it, thanks!

Any game of "Historical Reference" (for instance like a game where a passer throws for over 500 yards, or a receiver catches for 300+ yards, or maybe a true classic game like a Master of the 1977 AFC Divisional clash between Oakland & Baltimore... games like that are what I am referring too) that I do not have, or have rated low. I would be very interested in talking trade for it/them most likely.

Any "Rare" games (like say The Ice Bowl, or Super Bowl I, or the very first NFL game way back in the first season, or... well, you get the idea:) you may have and don't list I would be interested in talking about. I might have some thing's that you would be interested in dealing them for too.

NFL Team Season Highlights (also referred to as "Team Yearbooks" sometimes), Game Of The Week shows, and This Week In Pro Football shows, I love them! Especially from the '60 through mid 70's, but all are of interest! Excellent or better quality is what I want, but I'll listen to any offer if you just let me know what you have and what quality it is, thanks! I enjoy other Highlight Films too, just let me know what you've got to offer, thanks!

Highlight Films of College Football are of big interest too me as well, especially great season highlight films (like say Georgia 1981, or USC 1972, ones like that, or even close to that... take a look at my list of them, you'll see what I mean), or historical films like "The History of UCLA Football", or "The History of the Penn State vs Pittsburgh Rivalry", ones like that. I just love those type of films. Same goes for many Baseball (especially College World Series films I don't have) films as well as NBA team season highlight films too!

Essentially, any game or highlight film that I do not have I will listen to trade offer's for, BUT please note that I am getting REAL picky about which ones I trade for anymore, simply due to a diminishing amount of storage space and/or because I have most of what I want. I hope you can  understand.

RUMOR HUMOR!
There are some real demented "sensationally
untrue gossip" creator/spreader's in this Hobby that seem to have nothing better to do then create lies about other's in an attempt to "bring those people down to their level".
So be it I feel, they have to live with themselves, which unfortunately seems to be very easy for them to do. There is no conscious for the mentally deranged I guess.
All I can say is be wary of what you hear (
about me, or anyone for that matter) about other's. If you hear some "shocking gossip" about another collector, be it myself or anyone else, think first that most likely it's not true, but rather a fabrication created by those who feel the need to bring other's down to their plateau, and the only way they can do it is to create and spread rumors like little girls at a debutants slumber party.
The best advice I can give is to just deal with everyone how you would like to be dealt with, and judge them then on the way they deal with you in return. That's the only valid information you can go on.   :)

MY QUALITY RATINGS : All current and future events are recorded on DVD at SP or better speed using Component Video or S-Video, and Gold Monster Cable connections. I am fortunate to get both Satellite and TV signals that are PRISTINE CLEAR because of the area I live in ("Guess we'll never move"... my wife has been heard to mutter;-). What all that means is that I get an amazingly clear copy, no matter what! Hence, these recordings get the perfect Rating of 10, something I used to never give out, feeling perfection was unattainable. After seeing how DVD can look just like TV, I give that rating out to those recordings now, and I am confident you'll agree with them.

What goes into my factoring of a games rating? Well, first off,  I can tell you that "I" try to be honest about my tapes and their viewing rating. That way, you know what to expect when you receive your copy. Quality of picture clarity/crispness, screen bounce (any, occasional, some?...this really drops a tapes rating to me), screen wobble, screen drop out's, and snow or tracking lines across the screen. Those are the biggest factors. Sometimes a game will have 8 clarity, but I mark it down a full notch or more because one or more of the other factors is less than that a 8. All such combination effects are taken into consideration. What I am saying by all this is that the rating given on a tape is it's COMPLETE RATING, not just one of it's essential elements to a quality rating. Again, I think that is the only way to do this.

One thing to know. The ONLY REASON why you don't see a lot of lowly rated games is because I don't want them. It's just that simple. There are some 6 and lower rated games in my collection, and that's because they are games that I just "have to have" for one reason or another. But the only reason I keep those is because to date I have not been able to locate the game in better condition, but I'm still trying! I wont be happy until all of my games are rated at least 8- or higher.

OK, with all that said  :) , here is "my" easy to relate to rating criteria using TODAY'S game qualities as the comparison model since that is what we are accustom too :

A simply 1 through 10 (best) rating system.

10 =
This is a DVD Master, either of my own or an exact duplicate from someone else, of the Original Broadcast
9 = Fantastic Picture, simply beautiful.
8 = Awesome Picture, very very nice. At 8- and up, I've stopped "actively" looking for an upgrade!
7
= Excellent Picture.
6 = Very Good Picture, but certainly not "picture perfect". Definitely worth watching though, especially for mid 80's and earlier games, but don't expect it to look like that game you just taped yesterday!  :)
5 = A watchable game, but it's certainly going to have some noticeable deficiencies.
4 = Worth watching only if it was a great game or your favorite team (Broncos for me), but the quality is not the greatest, so expect that to be the case!
1 = Bad quality. You better be a big fan of the team or want the game big time!

Other Ratings :

...source  =  This game is most likely "as good as you can get" quality wise...

The "most likely" reason for this Rating is because I either released it into the hobby myself, or, my copy is an "exact duplicate of the original copy" from the person who did release it into the hobby, or, it could even be either a re-broadcast or a release of the original broadcast of the game, and thus it "probably" cannot be improved upon quality wise, which is what is most important to me personally... hey, this is my List after all.    :)

This does not mean that there are not other copies of this game available in the hobby that were made from other sources, the more recent the game the more likely that there are other copies of it floating around. But, if I have marked this game like this, then I feel quite strongly that this copy is the best you can find of the game for a variety of possible reasons, ESPECIALLY the farther back in history you go, say from the mid 80's on back to whatever the earliest made film I have marked this way...

I will rarely mark a game from the late 80's on with this, simply because though my copy may be my own Master, or is made directly from someone else's Master, the likelihood that another Master of equal quality still may exist, so I feel that my Quality Rating should just stand for itself... if I do mark it with this designation, it's because I feel there is something "unique" about my copy that justifies doing so...

Please don't ask for specific's as to why I marked a game this way, I wont give them for the obvious reasons...

I am only marking these in order to help you assess what games you might most be interested in trading for. But please know that I will stand by my assertion of what I am saying this marking means, though if proven wrong I will gladly take this out of a games rating section, but you'll still know you received a great copy of that game nonetheless! Most importantly, the Rating will still tell you what to expect from the game quality wise, with or without this marking...    :)

dl  =  This game is on a Dual Layer Disc... "most likely" I will send you the game on 2 or more standard DVD discs, but it is possible, depending upon certain things, that I might require sending it to you on a Dual Layer Disc... "some" of these games may be productions from someone other than myself, please be sure to ask if this is of interest to you...

JIP  =  Game joined in progress, usually just a couple of minutes or so into the game.

TL  =  Tracking line, not enough to bother "me or the game", but I want you to know about it.

SF  =  Screen Flicker (also called bounce or jitter) is noticeable during some or all of game.

*  =  Game or HL is worth double the norm to me.

Then in the final period, Dallas marched 76 yards in 15 plays to advance to the Detroit one-yard line. Rather than kick a field goal on fourth down, the Cowboys elected to give the ball to running back Duane Thomas (30-135), and was stopped short of the goal line. But three plays later, Dallas defensive end George Andrie sacked Landry for a safety. NFC Divisional  COWBOYS/VIKINGS   "The Hail Mary"  The Dallas Cowboys started with the ball on its own 15-yard line, losing 14-10, with one minute and fifty-one seconds left in the fourth quarter. Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach managed a nine play drive to midfield against the Minnesota Vikings defense. From midfield, with 24 seconds now remaining, Staubach lined up in the shotgun formation, took the snap, pump-faked left, then turned to his right and threw a desperation pass to wide receiver Drew Pearson, who was being covered by Minnesota Vikings cornerback Nate Wright. As the ball decended downward, Pearson caught the ball by trapping it against his right hip at the 5-yard line and ran into the end zone to make the score 16-14 in favor of Dallas, and what would eventually be the winning touchdown. Wright was unable to defend the pass, as he had tripped over Pearson's leg just as the ball came down. As Pearson strode into the end zone for the score, free safety Paul Krause complained to field judge Armen Terzian that an interference penalty on Pearson should had been called. An orange, thrown by a spectator in the stands, whizzed by Pearson at the goal line. The orange is visible on NFL Films footage of the play and was initially confused by some as a penalty flag. More debris was thrown from the stands by angry Vikings fans, enraged that no penalty was called on Dallas. Defensive tackle Alan Page argued with officials and was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the ensuing kickoff. On Minnesota's next possession with 14 seconds left to play, a whiskey bottle was thrown by a spectator, striking Armen Terzian in the head at Minnesota's own 10-yard line, creating a large forehead gash and rendering him unconscious. (This is known by many Vikings fans as the real Hail Mary.) Terzian had to wear a bandage, later requiring 11 stitches, as he walked off the field and was replaced by substitute official Charley Musser for the final two plays. A popular misconception among Viking fans is that Armen Terzian was solely responsible for judging the legality of the Hail Mary play. Head linesman Jerry Bergman was actually the responsible official on the play and ruled the play legal. Terzian was standing about 15 yards away from the catch, and agreed with Bergman's non-interference call, saying, "Both men were going for the ball. It's just one of those plays."  The term "Hail Mary pass" is believed to been used for the first time by Roger Staubach following the game in a post-game interview. Previous to this play, a last-second desperation pass had been called several names, most notably the "Alley-Oop". As Staubach, who had been hit immediately after throwing the ball and didn't see its ending, was asked about the play and he said, "You mean [Pearson] caught the ball and ran in for the touchdown? It was just a Hail Mary pass; a very, very lucky play." Staubach told reporters that he closed his eyes, threw the ball as hard as he could, and said a Hail Mary prayer.   (9+ ...source)

AFC Championship  STEELERS/RAIDERS  A defensive struggle turned into an offensive battle as the Steelers managed to stop the Raiders' final drive for the winning score as time ran out. Only Pittsburgh could manage to score during the first three quarters, with Roy Gerela's 36-yard field goal. But late in the third period, Steelers linebacker Jack Lambert recovered a fumble at the Pittsburgh 30-yard line. The turnover set up running back Franco Harris' 25-yard touchdown run to give the Steelers a 10-0 lead. Oakland responded with Mike Siani's 14-yard touchdown reception, but was countered by John Stallworth's 20-yard touchdown catch. But the Steelers' ensuing extra point was missed, and with the score 16-7, the Raiders found themselves at the Pittsburgh 24-yard line, third down and 2 yards to go, with 18 seconds left in the game. They opted to have George Blanda kick a 41-yard field goal to pull the deficit to 6 points. Then Marv Hubbard recovered the ensuing onside kick with 9 seconds remaining to give Oakland one last attempt to win the game. Cliff Branch then caught a 37-yard reception, but he was stopped at the Pittsburgh 15-yard line before he could get out of bounds and the clock ran out. Harris had a superb performance, rushing for 79 yards and a touchdown, while also catching 5 passes for 58 yards.   (9+ ...source)

NFC Championship  COWBOYS/RAMS   Quarterback Roger Staubach threw for 220 yards and 4 touchdown passes while also rushing for 54 yards as the Cowboys upset the favored Rams. The first passing attempt by Los Angeles quarterback James Harris, who was soon to be benched in favor of Ron Jaworski, was intercepted by Dallas linebacker D.D. Lewis. This set up Staubach's first touchdown pass, a screen to running back Preston Pearson for 18 yards. A 4-yard touchdown reception by Golden Richards and a diving catch in the end zone by Preston Pearson put the Cowboys up 21-0 by halftime. Dallas scored again on their first drive of the second half on a shovel pass to Preston Pearson for his third touchdown reception of the game. Toni Fritsch later added three field goals. Only John Cappelletti's 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter prevented the Rams from being shut out (and the Rams were helped on that drive by a controversial pass interference call on cornerback Mark Washington). Pearson finished the game with 7 receptions for 123 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 20 rushing yards. The Dallas defense allowed only 118 yards, a mere 22 on the ground, and sacked Jaworski 5 times.   (9, 1st & 4th Qtrs only ...source

WK# 2  VIKINGS/RAMS  Huge early season clash of titans sees the game go into Overtime and end in 10-10 tie when both teams fail to convert scoring opportunities! LA had tied the game with less the two minutes to go behind stellar performances from their RB’s John Cappelletti (28-128 & 2-15rec) and Lawrence McCutcheon (29-110 & 3-35rec). Minnesota’s All Pro RB Chuck Foreman (11-31 & 6-31rec) is held in check but QB Fran Tarkenton (27-43, 294yds, 1td) has a big day as does his favorite WR Sammy White (9-139-1). NFC Divisional  VIKINGS/REDSKINS  The Vikings jumped to a 35-6 lead by the end of the third quarter, led by running backs Chuck Foreman and Brent McClanahan who each rushed for more than 100 yards. McClanahan's 41-yard run on Minnesota's first play of the game set up quarterback Fran Tarkenton's 18-yard touchdown pass to tight end Stu Voigt. Then after Washington kicked a field goal, Tarkenton threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Sammy White, who managed to catch it after it was tipped in the air. Foreman added two rushing touchdowns and White caught a second touchdown pass. By the time Redskins quarterback Billy Kilmer completed two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, the game was already out of reach.   (9, film ends with score 35-6 in the 4th Quarter ...source

NFC Divisional  RAMS/COWBOYS   The Rams overcame two blocked punts by the Cowboys to come away with a 14-12 win. Dallas opened the scoring with a 44-yard field goal, but Los Angeles responded with quarterback Pat Haden's 4-yard touchdown run. Late in the first half, Charlie Waters blocked a punt to set up running back Scott Laidlaw's 1-yard touchdown to give the Cowboys a 10-7 lead. Early in the final period, Rams kicker Tom Dempsey made what would have been a game-tying field goal, but Cliff Harris was called for a running into the kicker penalty on the play. The usually conservative Ram coach Chuck Knox uncharacteristically took the points off the board, giving Los Angeles a first down. A few plays later, Lawrence McCutcheon vindicated Knox's decision as he ran for a one yard touchdown to give the Rams the lead, 14-10. With 1:59 remaining in the game, Waters blocked another punt and the Cowboys recovered the ball at the Los Angeles 17-yard line. On first down, Butch Johnson's reception was ruled incomplete because he could only get one foot down in bounds in the end zone. On 4th and two, the Rams stopped Staubach for a one yard gain and took possession on their own 8 yard line. After three "kneel downs" and Cowboy time outs, the Rams faced a 4th and 14 with seconds left in the game. Wary of another blocked punt, Ram punter Rusty Jackson scampered out of the back of the end zone in the final seconds for an intentional safety, and the Rams won 14-12.   (9, missing 3rd Qtr ...source)

NFC Championship  VIKINGS/RAMS  The Vikings forced a blocked field goal, a blocked punt, and two interceptions en route to the victory over the Rams. On offense, running back Chuck Foreman rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on just 15 carries while also catching 5 passes for 81 yards. In the first quarter, Nate Allen blocked a field goal and Bobby Bryant picked up the ball and returned it 90 yards for a Minnesota touchdown. Then in the second quarter, linebacker Matt Blair recovered a blocked punt to set up Fred Cox's 25-yard field goal to give the Vikings a 10-0 lead before halftime. Then in the third period, Foreman rushed 62 yards to the Los Angeles 2-yard line, and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run two plays later to increase the lead 17-0. The Rams rallied back with two quick touchdowns in the third. After a Dave Elmendorf interception gave the Rams the ball at midfield, Pat Haden hit Harold Jackson for 40 yards, followed by a 10-yard touchdown run by Lawrence McCutcheon. The PAT was blocked, however. On the Vikings next drive, Fred Dryer hit Fran Tarkenton on a sack, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Jack Youngblood at the Viking 11. Two plays later, Haden hit Jackson for a 5-yard touchdown pass. With 2:40 left in the game, Los Angeles advanced to the Minnesota 39-yard line. On fourth down and needing more than a field goal, Haden thought he had Jackson open deep near the goal line, but Bryant intercepted the pass (his second of the game) rather than batting it down. A few plays later, Tarkenton dumped a short pass off to Foreman, which he turned into a 57-yard gain. AFC Championship  RAIDERS/STEELERS   With Steelers running backs Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier out of the game with injuries, the Raiders easily shut down Pittsburgh's offense. Oakland jumped to a 10-0 lead with Errol Mann's 39-yard field goal and running back Clarence Davis' 1-yard touchdown run. The Steelers responded with running back Reggie Harrison's 3-yard rushing touchdown. With 19 seconds left in the first half, the Raiders faced first down at the Pittsburgh 4-yard line. Oakland lined up three tight ends as if they were to run the ball, but quarterback Ken Stabler threw a play action pass to Warren Bankston for a touchdown to give the Raiders a 17-7 lead at halftime. Oakland controlled the entire second half, including a 12-play, 63-yard scoring drive that ended with Stabler's second touchdown pass.   (9- ...source)

AFC Divisional  RAIDERS/COLTS   "The Ghost to the Post"   The first half was mostly a defensive struggle. Oakland scored first on a 30-yard run by Clarence Davis. Baltimore returned with two second quarter scores, a 62-yard Bruce Laird interception return for a touchdown and a 36-yard field goal by Toni Linhart. The half time score was 10-7 in favor of Baltimore. The second half began with a scoring flurry. Dave Casper scored on an 8-yard touchdown reception on Oakland's first drive of the half. Marshall Johnson of the Colts then returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a matching touchdown. Ted Hendricks blocked a third-quarter Baltimore punt, setting up a 10-yard Stabler-to-Casper touchdown pass, which made the score 21-17 in favor of the Raiders. The fourth quarter saw impressive comebacks by both teams. Ron Lee scored on a 1-yard fourth down plunge for Baltimore, making the score 24-21 in favor of Baltimore. Oakland returned with a long drive culminating in a 1-yard Pete Banaszak run for a touchdown, making the score 28-24 in favor of Oakland. Baltimore returned with a 13-yard Lee run that left them with a 31-28 lead with just over 2 minutes to go, setting up the memorable play for Casper. On third and long, with less than one minute on the clock, Raider head coach John Madden called for a time out. As Madden excitedly went over the next play on the sidelines with his quarterback, Stabler calmly looked at the frenzied Baltimore crowd and remarked "the fans are sure getting their money's worth today." Offensive coordinator Tom Flores called for a pass designed to go to one of the two wide receivers running an out pattern to the sideline, but told Stabler to "take a peek at the Ghost to the post", referring to a deep pattern by Casper down the field and then angling to the goal post. In what football fans now refer to as "The Ghost to the Post", Casper ran a deep post pattern, and Stabler threw a high, arching pass that looked well over thrown and behind Casper. It was Casper's memorable change of direction, chase, and athletic over-the-head catch that became the signature moment for the game. Casper went down at the 14-yard line, setting up a Errol Mann field goal that tied the game and sent the game to overtime. With 14 minutes left in the second overtime, Stabler hit Casper on a 10-yard touchdown pass that ended the third longest game in NFL history with a score of 37-31.   (7‑, some edited huddles, starting in Overtime though it is complete and a 9‑ ...source)

AFC Divisional  BRONCOS/STEELERS   Broncos linebacker Tom Jackson's 2 interceptions and a fumble return set up 17 Denver points as the Broncos defeated the Steelers. Denver scored first after John Schultz's blocked punt set up running back Rob Lytle's 7-yard rushing touchdown. Pittsburgh responded with quarterback Terry Bradshaw's 1-yard rushing touchdown. But in the second quarter, Jackson picked up a fumble by Steelers running back Franco Harris and returned it 35 yards to the Pittsburgh 10-yard line. On play later, running back Otis Armstrong ran the ball into the end zone to give the Broncos a 14-7 lead. Harris later tied the game before halftime with a 1-yard touchdown run. After the teams exchanged touchdowns in the second half, Denver kicker Jim Turner made a 44-yard field goal to give the Broncos a 24-21 lead. Then on the Steelers ensuing possession, Jackson intercepted a pass from Bradshaw to set up another Turner field goal. Jackson later recorded his second interception of the game, leading to wide receiver Jack Dolbin's 34-yard touchdown reception to put the game away. Harris finishd the game with 92 rushing yards, 4 receptions for 20 yards, and a touchdown.   (8+, JIP, missing 9 minute stretch between 3rd & 4th quarters ...source)

NFC Divisional  VIKINGS/RAMS   “The Mud Bowl”  The Rams had easily defeated an aging Vikings team in the regular season, and after years of frustrating playoff losses in the cold of Green Bay and Minnesota, the Rams finally had a home playoff game against a cold weather team. But as luck would have it, Los Angeles was engulfed in a torrential rainstorm. In the game known as the "Mud Bowl", running back Chuck Foreman led the Vikings to a victory by recording 101 rushing yards in a torrential rainstorm. Minnesota Head Coach Bud Grant's strategy was to have quarterback Bob Lee throw early before the field lost traction. The Vikings scored first on Foreman's 5-yard touchdown run which capped a 70-yard drive. From that point on until the fourth quarter, both teams remained scoreless while the field turned into a quagmire. The Rams had two chances to score, but quarterback Pat Haden threw an interception in the end zone and kicker Rafael Septien missed a field goal. Then early in the final period, Sammy Johnson scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown. With less than a minute left in the game, Haden threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Harold Jackson to cut the score 14-7. The Rams then recovered the ensuing onside kick, but Haden threw another interception to end the game.   (9 ...source)

NFC Championship  COWBOYS/VIKINGS   The Cowboys defense held the Vikings to 66 rushing yards and 6 points. Minnesota again started quarterback Bob Lee, who was playing for the injured Fran Tarkenton. Dallas took the early lead after defensive end Harvey Martin's fumble recovery set up wide receiver Golden Richards' 32-yard touchdown reception. In the second quarter, another fumble recovery by Martin led to a 46 yard drive, which featured Danny White's 22-yard run on a fake punt and running back Robert Newhouse's 5-yard rushing touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Cowboys linebacker Thomas Henderson forced Vikings punt returner Manfred Moore to fumble and it was recovered by Dallas tight end Jay Saldi. Five plays later, running back Tony Dorsett rushed for an 11-yard touchdown to put the game away. Cowboys just too much for aging Vikings in 23‑6 victory.   (9+,  ...source)

AFC Championship  BRONCOS/RAIDERS   After the Raiders cut the Broncos lead 20-17 with 3:16 left in the game, Denver was able to run out the clock. Oakland scored first on the opening drive of the contest with Errol Mann's 20-yard field goal. But on the Broncos' second play, quarterback Craig Morton threw a 74-yard touchdown to wide receiver Haven Moses. The score remained 7-3 until the third period. The Broncos recovered a fumble at the Oakland 17-yard line and then advanced the ball to the 2-yard line. On the next play, running back Rob Lytle was hit by Raiders safety Jack Tatum and lost the ball, and Oakland nose tackle Mike McCoy appeared to have recovered it. However, the officials blew the play dead and ruled that Lytle was stopped before the fumble even though replays clearly showed the ball was knocked free at the moment of contact, and Jon Keyworth scored a Denver touchdown one play later (To this day the debate over this play rages, with Raider fans bitterly swearing it cost them a shot at victory, while Bronco fans say at best it was merely equalizing what should have been a sure Denver touchdown scored when the Officials rule WR Jack Dolbin and trapped a pass he took in for a score despite replay's clearing showing he hand cleanly caught the ball). Early in the fourth quarter, Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dave Casper to cut the Broncos lead 10-14. However, linebacker Bob Swenson intercepted Stabler on Oakland's next drive, and three plays later, Moses caught a 12-yard touchdown pass. With 3:16 left in the game, Casper scored on a 17-yard touchdown pass to cut the score, 20-17, but the Broncos' held the ball for the rest of the game and ran out the clock.   (9+, dl ...source)

WK# 2  RAIDERS/CHARGERS   "The Holy Roller"   With 10 seconds left in the game, the Raiders had possession of the ball at the Chargers 14-yard line, trailing 20-14. Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler took the snap and found himself about to be sacked by Chargers linebacker Woodrow Lowe on the 24-yard line. Stabler fumbled the ball forward, and it rolled towards the San Diego goal line. Running back Pete Banaszak appeared to try and recover the ball on the 12-yard line, but could not keep his footing, and pitched the ball with both hands even closer to the end zone. Raiders tight end Dave Casper was the next player to reach the ball but he also evidently could not get a handle on it. He batted and kicked the ball into the end zone, where he fell on it for the game-tying touchdown as time ran out. With the ensuing extra point by placekicker Errol Mann, the Raiders won, 21-20. During the play, the game officials ruled that Banaszak and Casper's actions were legal because it was impossible to determine if they intentionally batted the ball forward, which would have been ruled a penalty. The National Football League (NFL) also backed up referee Jerry Markbreit's call that Stabler fumbled the ball instead of throwing a forward pass. However, when asked after the game by radio announcer Bill King if he intentionally fumbled, Stabler said, "You bet your ass I did."[2] Banaszak and Casper also admitted that they deliberately batted the ball towards the end zone.    (9-, JIP three minutes in ...source)

WK#12  OILERS/DOLPHINS   MNF classic where Houston rookie RB Earl Campbell (28-199-4) goes wild! The NFL had never seen anything like it. "It was a real shocker to walk in there and see all those 50-some thousand people. The crowd was real wild," recalls former Oilers coach Bum Phillips. "It was the first time that ever happened. No one had ever taken the pro game to the college level, where they had pompoms and stuff like that."
It was a classic late '70s disco scene, light blue pompoms on Monday Night Football. But the Astrodome crowd got a great show as the 8-3 Dolphins and the 7-4 Oilers treated them to a masterpiece by Hall of Fame quarterback Bob Griese and rookie sensation Earl Campbell.
Griese struck first, hitting Nat Moore with a 10-yard touchdown pass less than five minutes into the game. Campbell answered with one of his patented one-yard power runs, crashing over Dolphin safety Charlie Babb, to tie the game. In the second quarter, the teams traded a pair of touchdowns.
Campbell broke loose in the second half. His six-yard scoring run early in the third gave the Oilers another touchdown lead. But the Dolphins again responded, this time Leroy Harris going one yard to make it 21-21 as they headed to the final 15 minutes.
The Dolphins regained the lead early in the fourth quarter when A.J. Duhe sacked Dan Pastorini for a safety. But Miami could not build on its lead. With less than five minutes to go, Campbell ran 12 yards to put Houston up 28-23.
"He was always a great fourth-quarter player," says Phillips, who has retired on his ranch in the historic town of Goliad, Texas. "He was the best fourth-quarter player I have ever seen. He always had something left in the fourth quarter."
But there was enough time for Griese to again lead Miami down the field. Griese, who finished the night 23-for-33 for 349 yards, had the Dolphins driving. But it came to a halt when Steve Kiner intercepted Griese at the Oilers' 19 with a little more than a minute to go.
Phillips planned to run out the clock, only needing a first down to clinch the win. But Campbell was getting tired. The Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Texas had carried the ball 27 times, including on nine of the previous 13 plays.
Yet Phillips called the rookie's number again, a simple pitch play. Seeing a hole, Campbell cut outside. Once in the secondary, the only Dolphin with a chance to catch him was cornerback Curtis Johnson, but Campbell pulled away from him to finish off his 81-yard touchdown run.
"It was a wide running play. The pitchout. He started and turned up the field. About five people had an angle on him, and two of them were cornerbacks, and they couldn't catch him," Phillips says. "Earl never could get caught once he got out into the open."
The Dolphins never had a chance, losing the footrace to Campbell with Earl capping off his night with 199 yards and four touchdowns. Griese tossed his second touchdown pass of the game to Jimmy Cefalo on the final play, but it was not enough as Houston prevailed 35-30.   (9

NFC Wild Card   FALCONS/EAGLES   Atlanta won their first playoff game in team history after they overcame a 13-0 deficit by scoring 2 touchdowns in the final 5 minutes of the game to take 14-13 win over Philadelphia. In the first quarter, the Eagles Cleveland Franklin recovered a fumble on a punt return, setting up wide receiver Harold Carmichael's 13-yard touchdown reception. However, kicker Mike Michel missed the ensuing extra point, which would later prove to be costly. Neither team would score again until the third quarter when the Eagles would drive 60 yards to running back Wilbert Montgomery's 1-yard rushing touchdown. But late in the fourth period, Falcons quarterback Steve Bartkowski completed 4 of 6 passes for 88 yards, as Atlanta came back to score on tight end Jim Mitchell's 20-yard touchdown reception. Then on the Falcons next drive, Bartkowski threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Wallace Francis with 1:39 left in the game. The Eagles had one last shot to win the game as they reached the Atlanta 16-yard line with 13 seconds remaining, but Michel missed a 34-yard field goal attempt.   (9-, audio crackle ...source)

NFC Divisional   RAMS/VIKINGS   After the game was tied 10-10 at halftime, the Rams dominated the second half by scoring 24 unanswered points. After the Vikings opened up the scoring with a field goal, Los Angeles marched 59 yards to score on quarterback Pat Haden's 9-yard touchdown pass to Willie Miller. However, Minnesota tied the game 6 seconds before halftime when quarterback Fran Tarkenton threw a 1-yard touchdown to Ahmad Rashad. From that point on, the Rams controlled the rest of the game. After Cullen Bryant gave Los Angeles the lead midway through the third period with a 3-y
